US-Made Blue UAS Drones in 2026: Which Models Are Actually Cleared?

Finding an American drone is getting easier. Working out whether it is US-made, NDAA-compliant or Blue UAS Cleared is harder.

Those terms are often used together, but they don’t mean the same thing.

A drone can be manufactured in the US without being Blue UAS Cleared. An NDAA-compliant aircraft isn’t automatically Blue either. And, perhaps most surprisingly, a drone doesn’t even have to be American-made to appear on the Blue UAS Cleared List.

For government agencies, contractors, public-safety departments and organizations using certain federal funding, those distinctions can determine what they are allowed to buy.

We checked the current market to see which US-manufactured or assembled drones are being sold as Blue UAS Cleared in 2026, and what buyers should verify before ordering.

US-Made Blue UAS Drones in 2026

We’ve deliberately reported the manufacturer’s own wording for US production where possible. “Designed and assembled in the USA” is not necessarily the same claim as “designed, sourced and built in the USA.”

Last checked: August 23, 2026. Blue status can apply to a particular aircraft and configuration and can change. The official Blue List is now managed by the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA). Management of the program transferred from DIU to DCMA in December 2025, and DCMA is actively changing and accelerating its onboarding process in 2026.

This is a researched market list rather than a permanent copy of the government database. With Blue UAS, the exact model and configuration matter more than the manufacturer’s name.

US-Made, NDAA and Blue UAS: What’s the Difference?

The simplest way to think about the terminology is:

US-made or US-assembled describes where the manufacturer says the aircraft is produced. There is no single wording used across the drone industry, which is why we avoid treating “designed in America,” “assembled in America” and “built entirely in America” as identical claims.

NDAA-compliant generally refers to compliance with federal restrictions concerning certain covered telecommunications, video-surveillance and drone technologies or components. Manufacturers commonly use the term when marketing to government customers.

Blue UAS Cleared means a particular system has passed the applicable government supply-chain and cybersecurity vetting process for inclusion on the Blue List.

The Blue process therefore provides considerably more information than simply seeing “American drone company” on a manufacturer’s website. DCMA describes the program as a way of rapidly vetting unmanned systems and their components for defense use.

Skydio X10, X10D and R10

Skydio now has one of the most complete Blue UAS product families.

Its defense-oriented X10D was already Blue UAS Cleared, but in July 2026 the company announced that the commercial X10, Dock for X10 and indoor R10 had also been added to the list. Skydio says its products are designed, assembled and supported in the United States.

That addition is particularly relevant outside the military.

The X10 is widely aimed at police, fire, infrastructure, inspection and Drone as First Responder programs. Until July 2026, an organization could have an American-made, NDAA-compliant X10 without the aircraft itself carrying the same Blue status as X10D.

Now it does.

The R10 covers a different use case: flying inside buildings and other confined or GPS-denied environments.

For public-safety agencies trying to build a largely Skydio-based fleet, the current Blue clearance across X10, R10 and the dock ecosystem simplifies the procurement picture considerably.

Freefly Astro Max Blue: A Good Example of Why Configuration Matters

Freefly’s Astro Max is particularly useful for understanding Blue UAS because the name alone isn’t enough.

Freefly currently sells an Astro Max NDAA/Blue configuration for $28,995, and at the time of our check it was listed as in stock. Freefly says this version is designed and assembled in the USA and uses a Blue-approved Doodle Labs radio and Pilot Pro controller.

But Freefly also sells Astro configurations that aren’t Blue.

Its standard Astro Max can use a Herelink radio that Freefly explicitly identifies as not NDAA or DIU Blue approved.

So:

Freefly Astro Max ≠ automatically Blue UAS.

The actual configuration matters.

For mapping and inspection buyers, the Blue version is nevertheless one of the more accessible platforms on this list because Freefly publishes a normal retail price rather than requiring every prospective customer to request a government quote.

It supports payloads for RGB imaging, thermal work, multispectral capture and other inspection or mapping applications, with a maximum advertised payload of 3 kg.

Vantage Robotics Trace

American-made PROFESSIONAL-GRADE NANO UAV Trace drone

The Trace is much smaller.

Vantage Robotics describes it as a 153-gram American-made nano UAV with up to 36 minutes of flight time, EO and thermal imaging, obstacle avoidance and operation in GPS-denied environments.

More importantly for this list, Vantage currently says the aircraft is designed, sourced and built in the USA, NDAA-compliant and Blue UAS Cleared. New orders are quoted at around 90 days.

There is, however, a small example of why we still recommend checking the live government record: another technical-spec section on Vantage’s current page retains older wording saying “Blue pending,” even while the main product page says Blue UAS Cleared.

That appears to be an outdated piece of product copy, but for procurement we would verify the exact Trace configuration rather than trying to resolve conflicting website text ourselves.

ModalAI Stinger Vision FPV

ModalAI offers one of the rare Blue UAS drones with a clearly visible online purchase price.

The Stinger Vision FPV currently starts at $3,399.99, with ModalAI quoting shipment within 60 business days from San Diego. The product page identifies its country of origin as the United States.

It is a very different aircraft from an X10 or Astro.

Stinger is a compact FPV platform designed around low-latency video, onboard computer vision and operation in environments where GPS may not be available.

ModalAI says Stinger Vision FPV and its 5-inch and 7-inch Seeker Vision FPV aircraft were added to the Blue UAS Cleared List in 2025. The Seeker variants are directed primarily at government procurement, while Stinger can be purchased directly.

For smaller organizations trying to understand what Blue hardware actually costs, that public pricing makes Stinger an interesting outlier.

Other US-Made Blue UAS Platforms

Several other current aircraft are worth knowing without turning this into a full review of each one.

Ascent AeroSystems Spirit uses an unusual coaxial design rather than a conventional four-arm quadcopter. Ascent describes Spirit as designed and built in the USA, Blue UAS Cleared and NDAA-compliant. Its modular construction allows operators to change batteries, communications equipment and payload modules.

FlightWave Edge 130, now part of Red Cat, is a hybrid fixed-wing VTOL aircraft. Red Cat labels it Made in the USA, while current product material identifies the Edge 130 as a certified Blue UAS system. The design provides more than 60 minutes of claimed cruise endurance, making it better suited to longer-range mapping and reconnaissance than a conventional multicopter.

PDW C100 is a considerably more defense-focused multi-mission quadcopter. PDW’s current product page describes the C100 as fully NDAA-compliant and Blue UAS certified, with up to 74 minutes of advertised endurance with its ISR payload.

Teal Black Widow is manufactured in the United States and aimed primarily at defense and security. Red Cat’s current product page displays Blue UAS status for the platform, which also won the US Army Short Range Reconnaissance program.

These aren’t interchangeable alternatives. A nano indoor reconnaissance drone, a mapping platform and a long-endurance fixed-wing VTOL may all be Blue UAS Cleared while solving completely different problems.

That is another reason a simple “best Blue UAS drone” ranking isn’t particularly useful.

Blue UAS Does Not Mean Made in America

This is probably the easiest misconception to make.

Blue UAS is a security and procurement designation, not a Made in USA label.

Swiss manufacturer Wingtra, for example, currently offers the WingtraRAY as a Blue UAS Cleared surveying drone while explicitly describing its aircraft as “engineered in Switzerland for the US.”

French manufacturer Parrot also states that its ANAFI UKR is Blue UAS certified and NDAA-compliant.

So the relationship works both ways:

US-made does not automatically mean Blue UAS Cleared.

Blue UAS Cleared does not automatically mean US-made.

If a contract specifically requires American manufacturing as well as Blue status, both need to be checked separately.

Blue UAS Is Not FAA Approval Either

Blue UAS also doesn’t tell you whether a particular flight is legal.

The FAA, not the Blue UAS program, governs how drones operate in US airspace.

A commercial operator flying under Part 107 generally still needs a Remote Pilot Certificate, aircraft registration and compliance with the applicable operating rules. Registered drones are also generally subject to Remote ID requirements. Controlled-airspace operations and some more complex missions may require additional authorization or waivers.

Buying a Blue UAS aircraft therefore doesn’t give you special permission to fly somewhere you otherwise couldn’t.

Blue answers a procurement/security question. FAA rules answer an aviation question.

Do Most Drone Buyers Need Blue UAS?

No. If you’re using a drone for private surveying, photography, farming, construction or another normal commercial activity, Blue UAS status isn’t automatically necessary.

It becomes much more relevant when:

  • a federal agency is buying the drone;
  • a government contract specifies Blue UAS;
  • federal funding comes with procurement restrictions;
  • an organization has its own approved-drone policy;
  • the aircraft will operate around sensitive government or infrastructure environments.

Even then, don’t simply buy a product because a reseller puts a Blue logo next to it.

Check the exact aircraft, controller, communications hardware and required payload configuration against the current requirements.

Check the Current Blue List Before Buying

The Blue UAS program is changing quickly.

DIU transferred the Blue UAS Cleared List to DCMA in December 2025, and DCMA has spent 2026 accelerating the process by which new systems and components can be assessed and added.

That makes old “complete Blue UAS lists” increasingly risky.

Our rule would be simple:

Use articles like this to identify the aircraft worth considering. Use the current DCMA Blue List to confirm the exact system before spending money or submitting a government bid.

The difference between US-made, NDAA-compliant and Blue UAS Cleared can look like bureaucratic terminology.

For the buyer who discovers too late that the wrong radio or aircraft configuration doesn’t qualify, it is anything but.
