UK Betting and Casino Guide: Bookmakers, Casinos and Offers Under the New Rules

drone.bet's UK section: licensed bookmakers, casinos, free bets and casino bonuses, ranked and explained under the Gambling Commission's 2025 and 2026 rule changes.

Since 19 January 2026 no licensed UK casino or bookmaker can ask you to play a bonus through more than 10 times. That single rule rewrote almost every welcome offer in the country. It is why the offers on these pages look shorter and cleaner than they did a year ago, and often smaller.

This is drone.bet’s UK section. It covers Gambling Commission-licensed bookmakers and online casinos, the welcome offers they run today, and the rules that now shape them. Everything here is for adults aged 18 and over in Great Britain.

The headline numbers vary, but they share a structure. A sportsbook offer gives you free bets after a qualifying bet at minimum odds. A casino offer gives you free spins or a matched bonus after a qualifying deposit or stake. Our guides break down which version is better value and why.

Our UK guides: betting sites, casinos and bonuses

Each guide below is a ranked listing with the brand’s current offer, its significant terms and a short editorial on what it does well.

  • Best UK betting sites: ten bookmakers ranked on markets, app, payments and value, from bet365 to QuinnBet.
  • Free bets and betting offers: every sportsbook sign-up deal we list, with qualifying odds and expiry spelled out.
  • Horse racing betting sites: Best Odds Guaranteed terms, each-way places and live streaming, checked on the bookmakers’ own pages.
  • Best UK online casinos: ten licensed casinos, from bet365 Casino to All British Casino.
  • Casino bonuses: free spins, no wagering deals and matched bonuses, explained under the 10x cap.
  • New casino sites: recent arrivals on the Gambling Commission’s register, and the fresh offers worth a look.

Two calculators sit alongside the betting guides. The each-way calculator works out returns on the win and place parts at any place terms. The Lucky 15 calculator handles the 15-bet multiple that racing fans love and bookmakers often exclude from promotions.

How UK gambling regulation works

Every operator on these pages holds a remote licence from the Gambling Commission, the regulator for Great Britain. A licence comes with conditions on advertising, age verification, customer funds, anti-money laundering checks and social responsibility.

The Commission keeps a public register of licence holders. Each entry shows the company, its licence start date and the domain names it is allowed to trade on. If a site’s footer licence number does not lead to an active entry, do not deposit.

The age limit is 18 for betting, casino, bingo and lotteries. Operators must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or gamble. That is why sign-up asks for your name, date of birth, address and sometimes documents.

The 2023 White Paper and what followed

Most of the recent changes trace back to the government’s 2023 White Paper, High stakes: gambling reform for the digital age. It set the direction; the Commission then consulted on each measure and wrote it into licence conditions. Three of those measures now affect how you play: the bonus wagering cap, slots stake limits and financial risk checks.

The 10x wagering cap on bonuses

The Gambling Commission confirmed the change in March 2025, with all measures in force from 19 January 2026. Wagering requirements are capped at 10 times. The Commission’s own example shows the scale of the shift. Under the old system, a £10 bonus with 50x wagering meant £500 of play before you could withdraw.

The same package banned mixed-product promotions. An operator can no longer require you to bet on football and spin slots to qualify for a single bonus. That is why sportsbooks now run sports-only offers, and casino brands run separate casino offers.

For players, the practical effect is clearer terms. Look at the William Hill Vegas offer: free spin winnings must be wagered 10x on the advertised game, with winnings capped at £30. A few years ago, terms like that commonly ran to 35x or more. Some brands dropped wagering entirely: Betway Casino’s 150 free spins pay winnings without any play-through.

What the cap does not change

Maximum win caps, game restrictions, spin values and expiry periods still apply, and they still matter. A no-wagering spin pack worth 10p per spin is a different proposition from a £100 matched bonus, even if both now carry 10x or less. Our casino bonuses guide compares them line by line.

Online slots stake limits

Online slots in Great Britain now have a maximum stake per spin. The Commission’s stake limit guidance sets two levels:

Age Maximum stake per spin In force since
25 and over £5 9 April 2025
18 to 24 £2 21 May 2025

The limits apply to online slots only. Roulette, blackjack, live casino tables and sports bets are not covered. Many casino bonuses also set a lower maximum bet while bonus funds are in play, commonly £5 or less. Check the max bet line before you spin.

Affordability and financial risk checks

“Affordability checks” became shorthand for a long argument about how much operators should know about customers’ finances. The current position is more specific.

On 7 July 2026 the Commission said it would introduce Financial Risk Assessments in stages. The first stage applies to the largest operators and to customers whose net deposits pass £5,000 in a rolling 24 hours, or £2,500 for under-25s. The final stage brings the triggers down to £1,000 in 24 hours or £3,000 over 90 days for over-25s, and £750 or £2,000 for under-25s.

The assessments use credit reference agency data, require no documents from most customers and do not affect your credit score. The Commission has said it will confirm the timetable for stage one separately. They are not spending caps: the Commission describes the thresholds as triggers for a check, not a limit on how much you can gamble.

Separately, every operator already has a duty to step in where gambling looks harmful. That is why you may be asked about your income or occupation, or see a message about your play, regardless of the new assessments.

Key dates: how UK rules changed

  • 9 April 2025: £5 maximum stake per spin on online slots for adults aged 25 and over.
  • 21 May 2025: £2 maximum stake per spin on online slots for adults aged 18 to 24.
  • 19 January 2026: wagering requirements capped at 10x; mixed-product promotions banned.
  • 7 July 2026: the Gambling Commission confirms Financial Risk Assessments will be introduced in stages, starting with the largest operators.

Each change is reflected in the offers and terms across our UK guides. When an operator updates an offer, we update the card.

How we choose and rank UK operators

We only list operators with an active Gambling Commission licence. We only print offers and Promo Codes from our own operator data, never codes copied from other sites. Each guide explains its own criteria, but the core questions are the same:

  • Licence and track record: an active UK licence, clear ownership and published complaints routes.
  • Offer quality: what the deal is worth after qualifying odds, wagering, spin value, max win and expiry, not the headline figure.
  • Product depth: markets and in-play coverage for sportsbooks; game range and providers for casinos.
  • Payments: which methods qualify for the welcome offer, since many exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller or Paysafecard.
  • Safer gambling tools: deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and GAMSTOP participation, which every licensed operator must support.

Rankings are editorial. Operators do not pay for position, though we may earn a commission when you sign up through our links.

Machine sports, drones and the UK books

drone.bet’s beat is betting on the future: drone racing, autonomous cars, robot combat and humanoid robots. UK bookmakers rarely price those events, but some do offer markets around big showcase races and novelty specials. Our guide to UK drone betting sites tracks where those markets turn up and what to expect from them.

If your interest is form study rather than spectacle, the horse racing AI tools guide covers the data services UK punters use, from Timeform to Proform.

Sportsbook offers versus casino offers

The two kinds of offer reward different behaviour. A sportsbook free bet asks for one qualifying bet, then hands you a fixed amount in free bets. At the major brands, the winnings carry no wagering. Its value depends on the odds you use it at, since the stake is not returned.

A casino offer asks for a deposit and a stake, then gives you spins or bonus funds. Its value depends on spin value, wagering and win caps. A no-wagering spin pack is closest to a free bet in spirit: once the spins land, winnings are cash.

Under the 2026 rules you can claim both from the same brand, but as two separate promotions. Neither can require you to play the other product.

Reading significant terms before you sign up

UK advertising rules require operators to show the significant terms of an offer alongside it. Every offer card on drone.bet prints them in full under the call to action. The lines worth checking first:

  • Qualifying odds: Coral accepts 1/2, Betfred asks for evens (2.0), and some bookmakers set 3.0 or more.
  • Payment exclusions: most welcome offers require a debit card first deposit.
  • Stake returned or not: on almost every free bet, it is not. A £10 free bet at 3.0 returns £20, not £30.
  • Expiry: seven days is standard for free bets; some casino spins expire in 48 or 72 hours.
  • Max win: casino spin offers frequently cap winnings, from £30 to £200 in the offers we list.

Safer gambling in the UK

Gambling should be a paid-for leisure activity, not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit when you open an account; every licensed site has one in its responsible gambling settings. Use time-outs, and if you need a longer break, GAMSTOP blocks you from every UK-licensed online operator at once.

If gambling is causing problems for you or someone close to you, free and confidential support is available 24 hours a day. Call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, or go to GambleAware.org.

FAQ

Are UK betting sites and online casinos legal?

Yes, for adults aged 18 and over, provided the operator holds a remote licence from the Gambling Commission. You can check any brand on the Commission's public register, which lists the licence holder and the domains it is allowed to trade on.

What is the maximum wagering requirement on UK bonuses?

Since 19 January 2026, Gambling Commission rules cap wagering requirements on bonuses at 10 times. The same rule change banned promotions that require you to play more than one product type, such as sports betting and slots, to qualify.

How much can I stake on an online slot in the UK?

The limit is £5 per spin for adults aged 25 and over, live since 9 April 2025. For adults aged 18 to 24 it is £2 per spin, live since 21 May 2025. The limits apply to online slots only, not roulette, blackjack or sports betting.

Do I pay tax on gambling winnings in the UK?

No. Players in the UK do not pay tax on gambling winnings. Duties are charged to operators instead.

Why does a betting site ask about my finances?

Operators have a duty to check that gambling is not causing financial harm. The Gambling Commission is also introducing Financial Risk Assessments in stages, starting with the largest operators and customers with very high net deposits. These use credit reference data and do not affect your credit score.
