Best UK Betting Sites: 10 Licensed Bookmakers Ranked on Markets, Apps and Offers
Ten UK-licensed bookmakers ranked by our editors, from bet365 and Betfred to SBK and QuinnBet, with what each does best and the full terms of every welcome offer.
bet365 streams every race run in the UK, Ireland and France. That is one reason it still leads our ranking of the best UK betting sites. The other nine bookmakers below all hold Gambling Commission licences and run a sports-only welcome offer under the post-January 2026 rules. Each one earns its place for something specific: Betfred for racing value, Coral for an easy qualifying bet, SBK for a clean app.
Every offer card shows the significant terms in full. Read the qualifying odds and payment rules before you deposit; they vary more than the headline numbers suggest.

The UK bookmakers in detail
Ten bookmakers, ten different reasons to open an account. Each entry covers what the bookmaker does best, and where it falls short.
1. bet365: the deepest sportsbook in Britain
Founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 2000, bet365 built its reputation on in-play betting and has kept the lead. The range of markets is the widest of any bookmaker on this list, from Premier League player props to lower-league tennis.
Racing fans get three extras: Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish racing from 08:00 on race day, Each Way Extra and live streaming. Each Way Extra lets you pick your own place terms on selected races. On its racing hub, bet365 says you can watch and bet on every race in the UK, Ireland and France. To stream, you need a funded account or a bet placed within the last 24 hours; selected racing events need a qualifying bet.
The welcome offer is Bet £10 Get £30 in Bet Credits. The Promo Code 365GMBLR can be used at registration, though bet365 is clear that it does not change the offer amount. The app is fast and stable, with Edit Bet, Bet Builder and cash out on a wide range of markets.
Bet365 significant terms: New Bet365 Customers Only. Min deposit requirement. Free Bets are paid as Bet Credits and are available for use upon settlement of bets to value of qualifying deposit. Min odds, bet and payment method exclusions apply. Returns exclude Bet Credits stake. Registration Required. The bonus code 365GMBLR can be used during registration but does not change the offer amount in any way. Time limits and T&Cs apply. #AD 18+ GambleAware.org
2. Betfred: Best Odds Guaranteed on every UK and Irish race
Fred and Peter Done opened their first shop in Salford in 1967, and the brand is still family-run. Its online sportsbook is plainer than bet365’s but strong on football and racing promotions.
Betfred’s big racing move came on 8 January 2026, when it switched on Best Odds Guaranteed for every UK and Irish race, online and in its shops. It covers bets placed from 8am on race day. Ante-post bets and Lucky 15, 31 and 63 bets are excluded online.
The welcome offer is Bet £10 Get £50: a £10 bet at evens or bigger earns three £10 sports free bets and two £10 acca free bets. Qualifying deposits must be made by debit card, and the free bets expire after seven days.
3. Betway: a polished all-rounder for football
Betway, part of Super Group, runs one of the cleaner sportsbook apps in the UK. The layout puts football, tennis and in-play first, and the bet slip handles singles, accumulators and Bet Builders without fuss.
The welcome offer is Bet £10 Get £40, paid as four £10 free bet tokens after a £10 bet at odds of 2.0 or more settles. Debit card deposits only, and each token carries its own betting restrictions, so check which markets each one covers before placing it.
Betway also runs a separate casino product, covered in our UK online casinos guide. Under the 2026 rules the two offers cannot be bundled into one.
4. SBK: an app-first sportsbook from the Smarkets team
SBK is the sportsbook built by Smarkets, the betting exchange, and it shows. The app is minimal, fast and focused on prices rather than promotional clutter. There is no desktop-first heritage here: SBK was designed for phones.
The welcome offer is Bet £20 Get £50 in Free Bets. Deposit at least £10, place a £20 bet at odds of 3.0 or bigger, and the free bets arrive within 48 hours. The 3.0 minimum is the highest qualifying price on this list, so this offer suits punters who already back bigger prices.
5. Coral: the easiest £50 to qualify for
Coral significant terms: New UK+ROI Customers only. Certain deposit methods & bet types excl. Min first £/€10 bet within 14 days of account reg at min odds 1/2 to get 5x £/€10 free bets. Free bets available to use on selected sportsbook markets only. Free bets valid for 7 days, stake not returned. Restrictions + T&Cs apply. 18+ GambleAware.org
Coral sits inside Entain alongside Ladbrokes and shares much of its technology. Its strength is a high-street brand with a strong racing and football promotions calendar.
The welcome offer is Bet £10 Get £50 in five £10 free bets, and the qualifying bet only needs odds of 1/2. That is the lowest qualifying price among the £50 offers we list. Free bets are valid for seven days and the stake is not returned.
For racing, Coral runs Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish races from 8am on race day. You opt in once, and the extra payout is capped at £10,000 a day.
6. Ladbrokes: low entry stake, big shop network
Ladbrokes is Coral’s sister brand at Entain, with one of the largest betting shop estates in the UK. Online, it runs a near-identical product to Coral with its own promotions.
The welcome offer has the lowest entry point in our top ten. A £5 first bet at odds of 1/2 or bigger within 14 days of registration earns six £5 free bets. They are valid on selected sportsbook markets for seven days, and the stake is not returned. If you want to test a bookmaker without committing £10 or £20, this is the cheapest way in.
7. Unibet: European depth and strong racing terms
Unibet, now part of the FDJ United group, brings a European flavour to its markets, with good depth on tennis, basketball and non-UK football. The app is tidy and quick to load.
For racing, Unibet runs Best Odds Guaranteed on selected UK and Irish racing from 8am on race day, for singles and multiples. Returns carry a £25,000 daily cap. It does not apply to races carrying an Extra Place offer.
Unibet significant terms: New GB customers only. Opt in. Deposit and Bet £10+ on sports at min odds of 2.0+ (1/1) for £30 in Free Bets within 7 days. Debit cards or instant bank transfers only. Free bets expire within 7 days of issue. Geographical restrictions and T&C’s apply. 18+ GambleAware.org
The welcome offer is Bet £10 Get £30 in Free Bets: bet £10 or more on sports at 2.0 (1/1) or bigger within seven days. Debit card or instant bank transfer only.
8. Virgin Bet: a simple book with a low qualifying price
Virgin Bet is run by LiveScore Group and keeps things simple. The markets cover the major sports well, and the promotions lean towards football and racing.
The welcome offer is Bet £10 Get £30. A £10 bet at odds of 1.5 or more, settled within 14 days, earns £20 in sportsbook free bets plus a £10 Bet Builder free bet. Virgin Bet’s Best Odds Guaranteed works differently from most. It applies from 10am on race day once you have staked more than £25 over the previous seven days.
VirginBet significant terms: New members only. £10+ bet on sports (ex. virtuals) at 1.5 min odds, settled within 14 days. Free Bets: accepted in 7 days, valid 7 days; £20 use on sportsbook, £10 on Bet Builder. Stake not returned. T&Cs + deposit exclusions apply. Bet Responsibly. 18+ GambleAware.org
9. LiveScore Bet: betting inside the scores app
LiveScore Bet sits in the same group as Virgin Bet. It plugs into the LiveScore scores app that many football fans already have on their phones. If you check scores and bet in-play at the same time, having both in one place is the main draw.
The welcome offer mirrors Virgin Bet’s: bet £10 at 1.5 or bigger, settled within 14 days, for £20 in sportsbook free bets and a £10 Bet Builder free bet.
VirginBet significant terms: New members only. £10+ bet on sports (ex. virtuals) at 1.5 min odds, settled within 14 days. Free Bets: accepted in 7 days, valid 7 days; £20 use on sportsbook, £10 on Bet Builder. Stake not returned. T&Cs + deposit exclusions apply. Bet Responsibly. 18+ GambleAware.org
10. QuinnBet: a safety net instead of free bets
Quinnbet significant terms: New UK Customers Only. Bet £10+ on any sportsbook markets at odds of evens (2.00) or greater. No cash out. Get 50% back of your first day’s losses (from first bet settlement until 23:59) as a Free Bet up to £25, valid for 7 days. Min. 3 bets on different events required, with 2 bets being at least 50% of your largest stake. Place at least 1 bet of £10+ at odds 2.00+ to receive a £5 Free Bet even if your account is up or losses are under £5. T&Cs Apply. 18+ GambleAware.org
QuinnBet takes a different approach to the welcome offer. Instead of a fixed free bet, you get 50% of your first day’s net losses back as a free bet, up to £25.
The conditions are specific. Bet £10 or more at evens or bigger, and place at least three bets on different events. Two of them must be at least half the size of your largest stake. If you finish the day up, or your losses are under £5, one £10+ bet at 2.0 still earns a £5 free bet. No cash out is allowed on qualifying bets.
How we rate UK betting sites
We do not award points for a big headline number. The ranking weighs six things, in roughly this order:
- Licence and conduct. An active Gambling Commission licence is the entry ticket. We also consider published enforcement action and how clearly terms are written.
- Markets and pricing. Depth across football, racing, tennis and in-play, and how competitive prices are on the big events.
- Racing concessions. Best Odds Guaranteed, each-way terms and streaming, verified on the operator’s own pages.
- Offer value after terms. Qualifying odds, stake-not-returned, expiry and payment exclusions all change what a free bet is worth.
- App quality. Speed, stability and how quickly you can build and place a bet.
- Payments and withdrawals. Which methods qualify for the offer, and how easy it is to cash out.
Our editors compile and update the ranking. Operators do not buy positions, though we may be paid when readers sign up through our links. We only publish Promo Codes held in our own operator data.
Betting apps: what separates the good from the clunky
Every bookmaker in our top ten has an iOS and Android app, and most bets in the UK are now placed on a phone. The differences show up under pressure: during a Saturday 3pm kick-off, or in the minutes before a big handicap.
bet365 and SBK are the quickest at getting from the home screen to a placed bet. Unibet’s app is the most uncluttered of the mainstream brands. LiveScore Bet’s advantage is context: scores, line-ups and betting in one app. Coral and Ladbrokes share a platform, so their apps behave almost identically.
Whatever the app, set your deposit limit in the account settings before your first deposit. It takes thirty seconds and is the most useful safer gambling tool you have.
Payments at UK bookmakers
Debit cards are the default, and for welcome offers they are often the only route. Betfred, Betway and Coral all name debit card deposits in their terms, and Unibet adds instant bank transfer. Credit cards have been banned for gambling in the UK since April 2020.
E-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller are widely accepted for everyday deposits, but frequently excluded from sign-up offers. If you plan to claim a free bet, make your first deposit by debit card, then switch methods later if you prefer.
New betting sites in the UK
New bookmakers launch in the UK every year, usually on licences held by established platform providers rather than as fresh companies. That makes the licence holder more important than the brand name. A new site on a long-standing licence is a different risk from a new company with no track record.
Take 7Bet. Its operator, Anakatech Interactive, has held a UK casino licence since 2017, but its general betting licence only started on 20 February 2024. Smaller challengers such as easyBet, Winissimo and MogoBet also run sign-up offers, several with Promo Codes.

Before joining any newer site, check three things. Does the licence number in the footer lead to an active entry on the Gambling Commission register? Are the withdrawal terms clear? Is the welcome offer’s wagering on free bet winnings spelled out? Some smaller networks still attach a 1x wager to free bet winnings and a maximum conversion, which the mainstream brands above do not.
Free bets and offers explained
Every welcome offer in our top ten is a free bet offer, and in almost all of them the free bet stake is not returned. A £10 free bet at odds of 3.0 returns £20, not £30. Our free bets guide covers how they work and how to get the most value from each one.
The Gambling Commission’s 2026 promotions rules also ended offers that mixed betting with casino play. If a sportsbook advertises spins alongside free bets today, they will be two separate offers with separate terms.
If you mostly bet on racing, the horse racing betting sites guide compares Best Odds Guaranteed and each-way terms in more detail. The odds converter turns fractional prices into decimals, so you can check qualifying odds at a glance.
FAQ
What is the best betting site in the UK?
bet365 tops our ranking for the depth of its markets and its live streaming of every race in the UK, Ireland and France. It also runs Best Odds Guaranteed from 8am on UK and Irish racing. Betfred and Coral are strong alternatives for racing fans, while SBK suits app-first football punters.
Which UK betting sites have the best welcome offers?
On headline value, Betfred and Coral both offer £50 in free bets for a £10 qualifying bet. SBK offers £50 for a £20 bet at odds of 3.0 or bigger. Coral's 1/2 minimum odds make its offer the easiest of the three to qualify for.
Are UK betting sites safe?
Bookmakers licensed by the Gambling Commission must verify customers' identity, protect customer funds to a declared level, offer deposit limits and time-outs, and take part in GAMSTOP. Check the licence number in the site footer against the Commission's public register before you deposit.
Can I use PayPal to claim a betting sign-up offer?
Usually not. Most UK welcome offers, including Betfred, Betway, Unibet and Coral, require a debit card (and in some cases instant bank transfer) for the qualifying deposit. E-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller are commonly excluded.
Do I pay tax on betting winnings in the UK?
No. Betting winnings are tax-free for UK players. Bookmakers pay duty on their profits instead.
