UK Drone Racing Betting Sites: Specials, History and Where to Bet
Drone racing betting in the UK: the Betfair history, why markets are rare today, how drone specials work and which licensed bookmakers to use.
The UK got there first. In June 2017, Paddy Power Betfair priced every heat of the Drone Racing League’s season finale at Alexandra Palace in north London, billed as the country’s first professional drone race. Today you won’t find a permanent drone racing tab at any big UK bookmaker. Markets turn up as specials when a major event has an official broadcast and reliable results, and they disappear just as quickly.

How Betfair brought drone racing to British punters
The deal was announced on 7 June 2017 and the race ran six days later. Betfair’s sportsbook app offered bets on the winner of each of the seven heats, according to Legal Sports Report’s coverage at the time. It also priced the overall Allianz World Championship winner. Spectators at Alexandra Palace could bet on heat winners from the venue.

Betfair wasn’t the first bookmaker to try. Pinnacle is believed to have taken drone racing bets the year before. But the Alexandra Palace final was the first time a mainstream British brand put its name on the sport. That year’s DRL champion, Jordan “Jet” Temkin, won his second straight title.
Four years later, DraftKings signed the DRL’s US betting deal. That agreement never extended to a UK product.
Why drone markets are scarce at UK bookmakers
Before a trader will price a sport, a bookmaker needs three things. Those are a fixture list, official results and some confidence the event can’t be manipulated. Drone racing has struggled on the first two.
The Drone Racing League, the property with the broadcast deals, ran its last announced event in Miami in February 2025. The circuits that kept going are smaller, more fragmented and often stream on their own channels rather than on Sky or the BBC. That makes them hard to settle and hard to sell.
So when you see “drone racing betting sites” lists naming half the bookmakers in Britain, treat them with suspicion. Being able to bet on esports or novelty specials is not the same as being able to bet on drone racing.
Where the drone racing action is now
Drone Champions League
The Drone Champions League is the closest thing to a European drone racing season. It is team-based, with three cups feeding a Super Final. Raiden Racing won the 2025 title at Königssee in Germany, and in 2026 Vexcel Spain Drone Team won the Falcon Cup and Eagle Cup.

AI versus human
The most watchable race of 2026 so far was A2RL’s Human vs AI final in Abu Dhabi in January. Champion FPV pilot Minchan Kim beat TII Racing’s autonomous drone 5–4 after the AI hit a gate on the deciding run. Expect bookmakers to take more interest in human-versus-machine formats than in pure drone leagues.
How drone racing specials are priced
When a UK bookmaker does build a drone market, it usually takes one of these forms.
Heat or race winner
The format Betfair used in 2017. A field of six to twelve pilots, one winner. Crashes are common, so outsiders win more often than in most racing.
Outright championship
Back a pilot or team to win the season or a cup. With DCL’s team format, you are backing a squad rather than a single pilot.
Match bets
Pilot A versus pilot B, or human versus AI. These are the easiest specials for a trader to settle and the most likely to appear.

Drone racing vs esports betting
Bookmakers often file drone racing next to esports, and the confusion makes sense. DRL seasons mixed real races with levels flown in the DRL SIM, and the league recruited pilots through simulator tryouts. But esports markets cover titles with year-round professional circuits, official data feeds and huge audiences. Drone racing has none of those at the same scale.
So a bookmaker with a strong esports book is a good place to look for a drone special, but it’s no guarantee of one.
What a fair drone racing special looks like
If you do find a drone market, judge it the way you would any novelty price.
- Add up the book. Convert every price to an implied probability. A total far above 100% means a heavy margin.
- Check the settlement rules. Does a crash in the final count as last place? Is a re-flown heat a new race?
- Look at the stake limit. Novelty markets often cap stakes at a few pounds.
- Know the source. The market should name the official results provider.
