New Jersey Sports Betting Sites: Legal NJ Apps, Offers and Rules
New Jersey won the case that legalized US sports betting and still runs the deepest online market in the country. We cover the licensed sportsbooks, the rules, the taxes and our partner offers.
New Jersey is the state that broke the federal sports betting ban. It took its case all the way to the Supreme Court, won in May 2018, and was taking mobile bets by August. Eight years later, more than a dozen online sportsbook brands report revenue to the state. New Jersey also runs the most mature online casino market in the country.
This page covers who is licensed, what you can legally play in New Jersey and the partner offers live here. It also tracks three rule changes that matter: a 19.75% tax, a sweepstakes ban and a federal court fight over prediction markets.

Newcomer Betinia joined them in June 2026 under the Caesars Atlantic City licence; our Betinia Casino review and Betinia sportsbook bonus guide cover both of its products.
The longer-standing three are all on the DGE’s internet gaming list. Hard Rock Bet Casino runs under Hard Rock Atlantic City, PlayStar under Ocean Casino Resort, and Stardust under the Borgata license. PlayStar is a New Jersey-only brand, so you will not find it in other states. Read our PlayStar Casino review for the game library and banking options, or compare more offers on our New Jersey online casino promos page.
Licensed New Jersey sportsbooks
The list below comes from the online sportsbook tables in the Division of Gaming Enforcement’s September 2026 revenue report. If a brand is not on the DGE’s books, it is not a legal sportsbook in New Jersey.
| Sportsbook | Licensed partner |
|---|---|
| bet365 | Hard Rock Atlantic City |
| Bally Bet | Bally’s Atlantic City |
| betPARX | Harrah’s Atlantic City |
| Betinia | Caesars Atlantic City |
| BetMGM | Borgata |
| BetRivers | Monmouth Park |
| Borgata Sportsbook | Borgata |
| Caesars Sportsbook | Tropicana Atlantic City |
| DraftKings | Resorts Atlantic City |
| Fanatics Sportsbook | Bally’s Atlantic City |
| FanDuel | Meadowlands Racetrack |
| Hard Rock Bet | Hard Rock Atlantic City |
| Sporttrade | Bally’s Atlantic City |
| theScore Bet | Resorts Atlantic City |
Sporttrade is the odd one out. It works as a betting exchange where you buy and sell positions on outcomes, closer to a stock app than a traditional book.
New Jersey sports betting news: tax, sweeps and courts
A 19.75% tax on online betting and casino
New Jersey used to tax online sports betting at 13% and online casino at 15%. The FY2026 budget replaced both with a single 19.75% rate on online gross revenue. The DGE’s tax tables now list a “19.75% Casino Online Gross Revenue Tax.” Higher taxes tend to show up in thinner promotions rather than worse odds, though operators rarely say so out loud.
The numbers behind the market
In September 2026 New Jersey’s sportsbooks won $77.0 million, down 14.3% on a year earlier, while online casinos won $274.8 million, up 13%. Year to date through September, online casinos have brought in $2.40 billion against $748.4 million for sports wagering. The money in New Jersey has quietly shifted from the sportsbook tab to the casino tab.
Sweepstakes casinos banned
Assembly Bill 5447 outlawed dual-currency sweepstakes casinos from August 15, 2025. Our partner sweepstakes brands do not accept New Jersey players. See the full state list on our sweepstakes legal states page.
Kalshi v. New Jersey
New Jersey sent Kalshi a cease-and-desist letter in early 2025, Kalshi sued, and a federal judge granted it a preliminary injunction that April. In April 2026 the Third Circuit upheld that injunction, ruling that sports event contracts count as swaps under federal commodities law. Courts in other parts of the country have not all agreed, and further appeals are expected. Trading event contracts involves risk of loss. Our prediction market legal states tracker follows each case.
Can you bet on drone racing in New Jersey?
Yes, at least on paper. The DGE’s approved events list, last updated December 3, 2025, includes the Drone Racing League under racing. A footnote draws a neat line: live races count as athletic events, while virtual races count as esports. The same list approves the Call of Duty League, the American Cornhole League, the Pro Bowling Tour and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Robot combat and autonomous racing are not on the list yet. A sportsbook that wants to offer a new event has to ask the DGE for approval at least 72 hours in advance. No BattleBots or Indy Autonomous Challenge market can appear until a book does. Our US drone betting sites guide tracks which machine sports markets are actually being priced.
Betting on New Jersey teams
The Devils play in Newark, and the Giants and Jets share MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, so New Jersey bettors get a lot of home-market action. What you cannot do is bet on New Jersey college teams, such as Rutgers or Seton Hall, or on any college game played inside the state. The restriction comes from the state constitution, and voters rejected a 2021 ballot question that would have loosened it.
How we rate New Jersey betting apps
Every brand we cover has to be on the DGE’s own list first. After that, we look at five things, in this order:
- Pricing. We compare the margin built into common markets, such as NFL spreads and moneylines, by converting both sides to implied probability. A lower combined total means a fairer price.
- Market depth. Main lines are table stakes. We check alternate lines, player props, live betting and how many smaller sports and leagues each book carries.
- Promotion terms. We read the full terms, not the headline. Opt-in rules, minimum odds, expiry dates and whether a bonus bet’s stake comes back with the winnings matter more than the dollar figure.
- Banking. Deposit options, withdrawal methods and published processing times.
- Player protection. Deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and how easy it is to find them.
We do not take payment to change a ranking, and we only show offer cards for brands we work with directly.
How to sign up at a New Jersey sportsbook
- Pick a licensed brand from the table above and download its app from the App Store or Google Play, or open the website.
- Enter your legal name, date of birth, home address and the last four digits of your Social Security number. Sportsbooks use these to confirm your identity and age.
- Allow location services. The app checks that you are inside New Jersey before it lets you place a bet.
- Make a deposit and opt in to any welcome offer before your first bet. Most offers only trigger on the first wager.
You do not need to live in New Jersey. Visitors from New York and Pennsylvania cross the Hudson and the Delaware every weekend to bet. That is legal so long as the phone is on the New Jersey side.
Geolocation in New Jersey: where your phone has to be
Sportsbooks use GPS, Wi-Fi and cell data to place you. Near the state line, especially in Jersey City, Hoboken and Fort Lee, the check can bounce you if your phone is picking up New York towers. Turning Wi-Fi on usually helps. VPNs and location-spoofing apps get accounts closed.
Deposits and withdrawals at NJ betting sites
Licensed New Jersey books typically accept debit cards, online banking transfers, PayPal and prepaid cards, along with cash at the partner casino cage. Withdrawals go back through the same method where possible. Each operator sets its own limits and processing times, so check the cashier page before you deposit.
To price a bet before you place it, our odds converter turns American odds into decimal and implied probability.
Responsible gambling help in New Jersey
The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey runs the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline, which is free, confidential and open 24/7. The DGE also runs a self-exclusion program that blocks you from every licensed New Jersey gambling site at once. Inside each app, look for deposit limits, time-outs and cool-off periods in the account settings.
