Michigan Sports Betting Sites: Licensed MI Apps, Casinos and Offers
Michigan launched online sportsbooks and casinos on the same day in 2021, and most of its licenses run through tribal casinos. See the authorized apps and our partner offers.
Michigan switched on online sports betting and online casinos at the same moment: noon on Friday, January 22, 2021. Most of the brands you know got in through a tribal casino. DraftKings runs with Bay Mills, bet365 with the Odawa, Hard Rock Bet with the Hannahville Indian Community. Only three licenses belong to Detroit’s commercial casinos.
That mix makes Michigan one of the deepest markets in the country, with both sportsbooks and casino apps on offer. Below is the official list of authorized operators, the rules, and our partner offers live in Michigan.

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (FireKeepers) uses NeoGames, and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi (Four Winds) uses Strive. Check each tribe’s own app for current availability, and confirm it is still on the MGCB list before you deposit.
Michigan gambling law and enforcement
Sweepstakes casinos blocked
Michigan never passed a sweepstakes-specific ban because it did not need one. The MGCB treats dual-currency sweepstakes casinos as illegal gambling under existing law and has sent cease-and-desist letters, including one to Stake.us in January 2025. Our sweepstakes partners do not accept Michigan players. The full map is on our sweepstakes legal states page.
Prediction markets
Federally regulated prediction markets are available to Michiganders on some platforms. Several others leave Michigan off their eligible list or have pulled sports contracts in the state. Check the platform’s state list before you deposit. Trading event contracts involves risk of loss. Our prediction market legal states page tracks the details.
Betting on Michigan teams
Detroit has a team in all four major leagues: the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings. Add Michigan and Michigan State on college Saturdays and the state gives bettors a full calendar of home-market games. Licensed Michigan books carry them all.
For newer events, including drone racing, robot combat and autonomous racing, a book needs regulatory sign-off before it can post odds. Our US drone betting sites guide and the robot combat sports explainer cover what is actually being priced.
How we rate Michigan betting apps
Every brand we cover has to be on the MGCB’s own list first. After that, we look at five things, in this order:
- Pricing. We compare the margin built into common markets, such as NFL spreads and moneylines, by converting both sides to implied probability. A lower combined total means a fairer price.
- Market depth. Main lines are table stakes. We check alternate lines, player props, live betting and how many smaller sports and leagues each book carries.
- Promotion terms. We read the full terms, not the headline. Opt-in rules, minimum odds, expiry dates and whether a bonus bet’s stake comes back with the winnings matter more than the dollar figure.
- Banking. Deposit options, withdrawal methods and published processing times.
- Player protection. Deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and how easy it is to find them.
We do not take payment to change a ranking, and we only show offer cards for brands we work with directly.
How to sign up at a Michigan sportsbook
- Choose an authorized brand from the MGCB table above and download its app.
- Register with your legal name, date of birth, address and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
- Allow location services so the app can confirm you are in Michigan.
- Deposit, set your limits, and opt in to the welcome offer before your first bet.
Michigan sportsbook or Michigan online casino?
Most Michigan brands run both under one account and one wallet, so you can move from a Lions spread to a slot without a second sign-up. Welcome offers are usually separate, though. The sportsbook offer and the casino offer have different terms, and claiming one rarely counts toward the other. Read both before you deposit.
The two products also behave differently. A sportsbook bet is a price on an uncertain event, which you can compare across books. Casino games have a fixed house edge set by the game itself. All you can shop for are the bonus terms and the game’s published return-to-player figure. If you mostly bet sports, our odds converter helps you compare prices between apps.
Bet types on Michigan apps
Expect moneylines, spreads and totals on every major sport, plus parlays, same-game parlays, player props, live betting and futures. Combining legs multiplies the house edge as well as the payout, so parlays are where most bettors give back the most.
Geolocation in Michigan
You have to be inside Michigan to bet, though you do not have to live there. Detroit sits across the river from Windsor, Ontario, and phones there sometimes pick up Canadian towers. The same happens near the Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin borders. Turning on Wi-Fi gives the app a more precise location. VPNs are blocked.
Deposits and withdrawals at Michigan betting sites
Michigan apps typically accept debit cards, online banking, PayPal and prepaid cards. Several let you deposit or withdraw cash at their partner casino. Each operator publishes its own limits and processing times in the cashier.
Responsible gambling help in Michigan
The Michigan Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537), free and open 24/7, according to the MGCB. The state’s Responsible Gaming Database lets you self-exclude from every Michigan-regulated online casino and sportsbook in one step. The Disassociated Persons List covers Detroit’s three commercial casinos.
