Smarkets Promo Code COMMFREE: How to Use It for 0% Commission for 60 Days
How to use the Smarkets Promo Code COMMFREE for 0% commission over 60 days: where to enter it, what qualifies and what the saving is worth.
The Smarkets Promo Code is COMMFREE. Enter it in the promo code field when you register, make a first deposit of at least £10 by debit card or instant banking, and every bet that settles over the following 60 days is charged no commission. Smarkets is a betting exchange rather than a bookmaker, so the code does not hand over free bets. It removes the fee the exchange would otherwise take from your winnings, which is normally 2%.
That sounds modest, and for an occasional punter it is. For anyone who trades often, lays horses or bets in-play, it can be worth more than a typical free bet offer. Below is how to enter the code, how the commission is calculated and the terms that can leave you on the standard rate without realising.

How to use the Smarkets promo code at registration
The code only works if it is in place before the account exists, so the order is fixed:
- Open the Smarkets registration form. The offer is for new UK, Irish and Maltese users aged 18 or over.
- Type COMMFREE into the promo code field before you submit the form.
- Make your first deposit: at least £10 in a single payment, by debit card or instant banking.
- Trade as normal. Every bet that settles within 60 days of that first deposit is charged 0% commission.
- After 60 days your account returns to the default rate, and any bet settling after that point pays standard commission.
Smarkets is explicit about what happens if you skip the second step. Its terms say eligible new users who do not enter COMMFREE at registration “will automatically get the standard rate of commission of 2%” applied when they make their first deposit. There is no route to adding the code afterwards.
How Smarkets commission works, and what 0% saves you
A bookmaker builds its margin into the odds it offers. An exchange does not set prices at all: customers back and lay against one another, and the exchange takes a cut of the winnings instead. Smarkets’ help pages put its standard rate at 2% of your net winnings on each market, with nothing charged on a market where you make a net loss.
The exchange’s own illustration makes the sums concrete. A £100 back bet at 5.50 that wins produces £450 in winnings, and 2% of that is £9 in commission. With COMMFREE active, the full £450 stays in your account. Scale that up and the attraction becomes clear. Someone who wins £2,000 across a busy two months would pay £40 at the standard rate and nothing under the code.
The saving grows with turnover and with winnings. That is why commission codes appeal to regular exchange users rather than casual punters, and why COMMFREE is better thought of as a discount on a service you would use anyway than as a bonus in its own right. If backing and laying are new to you, our guide to UK betting exchanges explains the mechanics.
Debit card or instant banking: paying in for the Smarkets offer
The payment rules are strict. A first deposit made by Skrill, Neteller, PayPal or a virtual or prepaid card does not qualify, and Smarkets’ terms single out virtual Monzo cards by name. A physical debit card or instant banking is the safe route, and the £10 minimum must arrive as one payment rather than two smaller ones.
Smarkets’ help pages also set out how quickly winnings come back. Instant bank withdrawals are processed within 12 hours, with no fee and a £10 minimum. Visa debit withdrawals take one to six business days, and standard bank transfers five to ten, with a £20 minimum. Smarkets notes that UK users cannot cancel a pending withdrawal, in line with the Gambling Commission ban on reverse withdrawals that has applied to every online operator since October 2021.
Bets that settle after 60 days: the COMMFREE timing trap
The single most important detail in the terms concerns settlement. The 0% rate applies to bets that settle within 60 days of your first deposit, not to bets placed in that period. An ante-post bet struck in week one on a race three months away will pay standard commission when it eventually settles. The same applies to season-long football markets and outright golf or tennis bets that run past the deadline.
The way to get full value is to time the claim. The clock starts with your first deposit, so there is no point funding the account weeks before you plan to use it. Opening it shortly before a busy spell, such as a big racing festival or the start of a football season, means the 60 days cover the bets you were going to place anyway. In-play trading, same-day racing and weekend football all settle comfortably inside the window.
Smarkets sign-up code exclusions: API users, households and SBK
Several groups are shut out. Customers who access Smarkets through an API or third-party trading software are not eligible, which rules out the automated traders who might otherwise benefit most. The offer is limited to one per individual, family, household address, email address, payment account, IP address or shared computer, and it cannot be combined with any other sign-up promotion.
Smarkets also runs SBK, a conventional sportsbook, under the same company. Existing SBK customers cannot claim COMMFREE. The offer is open only in countries where Smarkets accounts are available, excluding Sweden, and anyone previously told by email that they are not eligible for bonuses will not receive it. There is no wagering requirement, no minimum odds and no maximum saving stated in the terms. Commission is simply not charged in the window.
Is the Smarkets commission-free offer worth claiming?
For the right customer it is one of the most valuable sign-up deals on the market, precisely because it has no ceiling. In-play traders, racing punters who lay horses and anyone who already compares exchange prices with the bookmakers will save money on every winning market for two months. The offer costs nothing beyond the £10 deposit, and that deposit remains yours to bet with.
A casual punter placing a handful of bets will save only a few pounds and may get more from a free bet offer such as William Hill’s S30, which pays £30 in free bets for one £10 single. The choice comes down to habit: occasional bettors gain more from a lump of free bets, regular ones from cheaper betting.
COMMFREE against Matchbook’s 110-day commission code
Matchbook offers a longer commission-free window with COMMFREE110, 110 days counted from registration rather than from first deposit, and Matchbook’s own welcome page caps its value at £1,000. It also offers a 20% loss rebate under REBATE20 as an alternative. Our Matchbook promo codes guide compares the two. Both exchanges set their standard commission at 2% of net winnings, both need the code at sign-up and both exclude first deposits by Skrill or Neteller. For free bets on an exchange-style platform instead, easyBet’s EB20 pays four £5 free bets for £20 of qualifying bets.
Smarkets promo code for existing customers
There is no COMMFREE equivalent for existing users. The code is for new UK, Irish and Maltese accounts only, and the offer has been available to customers signing up and depositing since 1 September 2023.
Smarkets’ UK licence and regulator
Smarkets is run by Smarkets (Malta) Limited, account number 39173 on the Gambling Commission public register. It holds a remote betting intermediary licence, the category for exchanges, active since 1 November 2014, and the register lists smarkets.com alongside the SBK domains. As a licensee it must verify your identity before you bet, offer deposit limits and self-exclusion, and take part in GAMSTOP.
Setting limits and getting help with gambling
Exchange betting can move quickly, particularly in-play, so a deposit limit set before your first payment is a sensible starting point. Smarkets, like every UK licensee, lets you cap deposits from your account. Anyone who feels their betting is getting out of hand can register with GAMSTOP to block every licensed UK site, find free support at GambleAware or call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. All offers are for adults aged 18 or over.
